New computer build….power supply

Next up is installing the power supply.

I installed an OCZ ZS Series 750W 80 Plus Power Supply from Newegg. Base price is $99.99.  When I purchased my power supply it was on sale for $69.99 and with a $25 American Express rebate card, making the final price $45.

Now the install. Super simple..four screws threw the back of the case firmly attach the power supply to the case. There is a whole mess of cables attached to the power supply, some attach to the motherboard, some to the various drives and fans (which there are five). If there is one thing on this build I would do differently, might be getting a modular supply which allows you to attach only the cables needed right now. But can’t beat the $45 price tag.

Next time, installing the fans and DVD drive and card reader.

Building my new computer

I have started the build. My new computer will be a race horse and able to handle ANYTHING I throw at it. I don’t like paying full retail so I have been wading through all the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc sales. So far everything I have purchased for this build has come at a discounted price and/or a rebate of some kind.

I have started with the Antec Three Hundred case. Good looks, lots of air flow and room for expansion. Most important to me was the front USB ports being at the top of the case, if I ever wanted to plug in an external device it is nice to have it there at your finger tips. Allot of cases have them at the bottom.

The case was purchased at Best Buy street price is around $40-$60. Mine cost $37 tax included.

Next time I will be installing my power supply.
